Some very short stories for people who know me

Sprint

The finest start in sprinting history - my win in the Open 100 metres B Division in high school.

El Alamein

Each year the Australian Army runs a firepower demonstration called Exercise El Alamein. Basically they set up a grandstand on a hilltop overlooking a weapons range. Then they fire, throw, drive, drop, launch, bomb, detonate, spray and shoot every weapon they own. They also serve hot dogs.

5/8th

Rugby is about confidence. Fortunately, the army teaches this stuff, so for the first time in my life I took the football field like a man who was going to score a lot of points before half time.

The Lincoln Wreck

Killy

My friend Lumpy has a beach house with a pot-bellied stove at Kilcunda on the Bass Coast in southern Victoria. The wall clock is deliberately missing a minute hand.

The first snow of winter

In January 2000 I was in New York for the first snowfall of the winter. I could say, "I was in New York on business", but I'd have trouble keeping a straight face.

Sevens

The Hong Kong Rugby 7's used to be a three-day tournament to see who will loose to Fiji in the final.
